Families

Generations

June 2, 2010 (Wednesday)
”picI attended another graduation ceremony last evening as my grandson, Sean Patrick Hinze, completed high school in The Woodlands. A little over a week ago, my granddaughter, Angela Rose Fake, graduated in Omaha, Nebraska. That’s seven (grandchildren) down, and two to go, until all nine of them have graduated from high school. So far, one of them has finished college and is working on a graduate degree: Melinda Pearl Fake Hodges. Some of the others are working on it and will soon graduate from college or pursue careers.
Life is indeed a passing parade, isn’t it? It is constantly passing before us as our loved ones experience the various passages of life. We watch as our children are born, then in no time at all, grow up and have families of their own. Then, if we live long enough, we see our grandchildren raise their own children. Life goes on, as it always has.
Heirlooms are nice, like a ring, necklace, watch or something that is handed down from one generation to the next. Nice. It is better when Love is the gift of one generation to the next. And it’s great when the heirloom is Faith, like that of Timothy, to whom the great Apostle wrote, “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5 NIV).
