Draw near to Him

and He will draw near to you

”picHave you ever rummaged around your kitchen late at night looking for “a little something?” You were kinda hungry, but you didn’t know for what. So you looked in the cabinets, in the refrigerator, and in the pantry. Hungry. But for what?
We get spiritually hungry like that. We are Christians, we have faith, we know the Lord, we love Him, but somehow we are feeling hunger for something. What is it?
The disciples on the road to Emmaus were a little like that. They had spent the last 3½ years with Jesus, hoping for something good to happen, only to see their teacher crucified and buried. That morning word had spread that He was not in the tomb. Something had happened. But what? They were confused. Their spiritual hunger to know more was very real.
Then Jesus appeared on the road and walked with them, but they did not recognize Him. He fussed at them for not believing all that the prophets had written about His life, death and resurrection. Then he showed them the Scriptures in their Bible that predicted everything that had happened. When they recognized who He was, He disappeared. Then they said to each other, “We should have known it was He. Didn’t our hearts burn within as we talked with Him?” His presence had been feeding their spiritual hunger.
As a Christian, are you spiritually hungry for something more than you have been experiencing in your walk with the Lord? Do you have a faith that knows, sees and experiences Jesus? Would you like to know Him better? Would you like to walk more closely with Him? He is with you. He will help you. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.
