..Believe and obey..

Preview of sermon on Moses, obedient servant of God.

July 15, 2007 (Sunday) – Today, eleven people from our church are on their way to Cartegena, Colombia, for a week of mission activity. We are praying for them as they go. They are led by Dr. Robert Edwards, M.D., and Mrs. Dolores Edwards, R.N., a couple who spent their mission careers as medical missionaries in that country. They will be conducting Vacation Bible Schools and doing other work. They will return next Sunday, but will arrive at the Houston airport after 6:00 p.m. So we will not see them in church until later. May God richly bless the work. They will be updating us daily via email.
This morning, my sermon will be about Moses. Allen Ray and Jonathan will be presenting special music about Moses’ call and how God used him to set His people free from slavery so that they might settle in the land given to their father Abraham and his descendants. Through them God has blessed the world.
Moses lived 120 years. His life naturally falls into three equal time periods of 40 years each. He ended the first 40 years “jumping the gun,” running ahead of God with precipitous actions. Because of that, he had to flee the country and spend the next 40 years in virtual obscurity, running behind God as it were. When God met him in the desert at the end of that period, he began running with God for the remaining 40 years of his life, and proved himself to be one of history’s greatest leaders.
Here is a little preview of the sermon you will hear today if you attend the morning worship service at the First Baptist Church of Rockport, Texas. The title of the sermon is, “Obey the Lord!” and the outline goes like this: 1. Don’t run ahead of the Lord! 2. Don’t run behind the Lord! 3. Run with the Lord!
Like Moses, we need to listen when God calls us, stop making excuses if that’s what we’re doing, and yield to the Lord’s will for our lives. In the process we will discover the purpose for which we were created.
God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. You will be at your best and you will be happiest when you are as close to the center of God’s will as you can be.
