Oops, wrong road

Trust the tried and true road

picture of CharlesA Nevada couple decided to try a new route back home from Oregon and found themselves stranded in the snow for three days in the Winema-Fremont National Forest. The pair, in their 60’s, had plenty of food and were finally found and rescued. Others lost in the wilderness have not been so fortunate.
The couple decided to try a new road without knowing much about it as the weather turned ugly and the snowfall increased. I see a parallel to the lives of many people who have made some unwise decisions in life.
As much as we know now about the dangers associated with smoking, there are thousands of young people across America and around the world who will begin smoking today. Unwise decision to take a road that will probably lead ultimately to sickness and pain.
There are thousands of married couples in our country who are having problems and are being tempted to spice up their lives by having an affair. Many of them are going to yield to temptation and decide to head down the wrong road. Unwise decision to take a road that will lead to unhappiness of many kinds.
Throughout our nation there are people at work today who have been thinking of doing something dishonest. Could be pilfering the petty cash or something worse. Could be adopting a business ethic they know is wrong. Unwise decision to take a road that could poison your conscience and paralyze you with fear of getting caught, not to mention the burdensome load of guilt.
Hey, you that are traveling a road that is safe, watching your driving, obeying the laws and remaining alert, a wise decision for you is to stay on the right road. Don’t try a new one that can take you into a wilderness from which you may never return.
Oh, yes, did you know that Jesus said, “I am the road” (John 14:6)? You need to get on that road. There’s a road in Harris County that is known as, “The road to nowhere.” Those roads are everywhere. Stay off them roads, ya heah?
