Youth

Vitality and Exuberance

picture of CharlesYesterday’s blog spoke of wild animals and our occasional interactions with them. Last night we were treated to a little show by a few of them. Three very young raccoons visited our patio to pick up some leftover cat food.
They were young, and not as careful about hiding from humans as they no doubt will be later in their lives. They romped around a little table, then upon the table. Alas, the cat had eaten all the food and there were no leftovers. But that didn’t stop the trio from having fun. At least that’s what they looked like they were doing.
The entertainment reminded me of a scene from Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, “The Mikado,” in which three very young ladies celebrate their youth by singing, “Three little maids from school are we, pert as a school-girl well can be, filled to the brim with girlish glee, three little maids from school. Everything is a source of fun. Nobody’s safe, for we care for none. Life is a joke that’s just begun. Three little maids from school.”
Ah, youth! Whether it’s three little maids from a century past or three little raccoons experiencing a world of adventure, it’s youth with all its enthusiasm, energy and excitement.
A word to young people everywhere: Have fun, you guys. There’s time enough to experience disappointment and frustration, troubles and sorrows, pain and sadness. Enjoy your youth. Hopefully, you’ll find some adults along the way who remember their own youth well enough to help you enjoy yours.
I hope you meet Jesus somewhere along the way. He won’t hurt you. He will help you. Your youthful years will be enhanced through knowing him and living your life his way.
