Eagles

“He will raise you up on eagles’ wings”

picture of Charles”They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
There are many references to eagles in the Bible. All birds are remarkable creatures, and birds like the eagle hold a special fascination for us.
There are sixty species of eagles but only two in North America: the Bald Eagle and the Golden Eagle. Did you know their eyesight is eight times better than ours? Would it surprise you to discover that their eyes take up more space in their skull than their brain? “He hath made everything beautiful in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
The first reference to eagles in the Bible is found in Exodus 19:4: “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.”
Linda Ward sang a beautiful song in worship yesterday at Timbergrove Baptist Church. Written by Michael Joncas, the chorus affirms a promise for believers:

“And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand.”
