What’s in a name?

What candy bar was named after a horse? Hint: It was introduced in 1929. Second hint: It contains peanuts, caramel and chocolate. Third hint: It has at least 29 variations. Fourth hint: It is sold all over the world. Guessed it yet? Snickers! Snickers was the Mars family’s favorite horse.
It was marketed under various names in other countries. In the United Kingdom it was sold as Marathon. After changing the name to Snickers, it went from number 9 to number 2 in popularity there.
For many years it has been my favorite candy bar. I hasten to say, however, that every other candy bar in the world is a close second.
Wonder why it’s so good? Here’s what it’s made of: milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, chocolate, skimmed milk, lactose, milkfat, soy lecithin, artificial flavor), peanuts, corn syrup, sugar, skim milk, butter, milkfat, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, lactose, salt, egg whites and artificial flavor.
I don’t know how many calories are in a regular Snickers bar, but I’ve heard Snickers is especially good when deep fried, containing then only 850 calories. A piece of Snickers pie has at least 1250 calories and is suggested as an occasional treat only. Anything that high in calories has to be good!
A friend told me her doctor put her on a simple diet: “If it tastes good, spit it out!” I am sure, however, that we are given a special dispensation for Snickers candy bars.
