Worship

Admire, Exalt and Glorify God

picture of CharlesPsalm 24 is a song about worship. As we begin reading this Psalm, we can hear the words of Jesus ringing in our ears, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
God has the right to claim our worship. He has created us and we belong to Him. He has redeemed us at an awful cost and we belong to Him. He neither leaves us nor forsakes us because we belong to Him. Therefore we worship Him.
God lays down the requirements for worship: clean hands and a pure heart (Psalm 24:4). “Clean hands” means we have repented of all sin and are on the right track in our lives, seeking to live for Jesus. “Pure hearts” means we are totally sincere and open with God as we meet Him in worship.
God blesses us in worship. The result of the worshiper’s adoration of God is seen in Psalm 24:5, “He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Savior.” In Ephesians 3:14ff, the New Testament tells us of the blessings of worship: Spiritual strength, close daily fellowship with Christ, a firm foundation of love, growth in the likeness of Christ.
We not only worship in a church house on Sunday; we worship wherever we are the rest of the week. When Solomon prayed at the dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem, he acknowledged the truth that no building or place can hold God. As we worship at church, therefore, we do not forget that God in all of His power and glory is everywhere and should be honored in all that we do every day. Jesus said we worship in spirit and truth. “Come let us adore Him!” “Worship the King!”
