In the Old Testament, we have an interesting account of how the Lord blessed the prophet Elisha in miraculous ways. “When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” (2 Kings 6:15-17 NIV).
Elisha’s servant learned a great lesson that day: “Things are not always as they seem.”
Question: Do you know of a similar situation in the New Testament? How about the night when Jesus was taken into custody before He was crucified? Remember how Peter tried to defend Jesus? With sword in hand, he struck one of the soldiers, cutting off his ear. Jesus healed the man, then turned to Peter and said, “Put up your sword. Do you think that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?”
If you and I had the chance to have been at either place we would have not comprehended the true situation. In Elisha’s case, he saw hills full of helpers. Did Jesus see the angels he said were prepared to help? The Bible does not say so, but He probably did. He knew they were there–a sky full of angels, ready to do His bidding.
Elisha and Jesus had something in common. They trusted God completely. You and I can do that too. We may not see how things are going to work out when we face trials and tribulations, but we can still trust the Lord. As Christians we can believe Romans 8:28, “..God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (Romans 8:28 NLT).
As yesterday’s blog declared, “God will make a way!”
Sky Full of Angels
Songwriters: Collins / Mills / Stewart
Preacher man talkin’ about the end of time
Well, Lord knows I’m ready, it don’t worry my mind
You see, I ain’t afraid of nothing because I believe
I’ve got a sky full of angels watching over me
You can take my possessions
You can take all my gold
Nobody but Jesus gonna take my soul
Walk through darkness
I don’t need no light
My faith in Jesus gonna be my guide
You see, I ain’t afraid of nothing because I believe
I’ve got a sky full of of angels watching over me
You can take me for granted
You can take all my gold
Nobody but Jesus gonna take my soul
River’s rising but I got no doubt
My sweet Savior’s gonna pull me out
You see, I ain’t afraid of nothing because I believe
I’ve got a sky full of angels watching over me
Well you can take my possessions
You can take all my gold
Nobody but Jesus gonna take my soul
I ain’t afraid of nothing because I believe

I ain’t afraid of nothing because I believe
I’ve got a sky full of angels watching over me.
