Many people believe that Charles Haddon Spurgeon was one of the greatest preachers in history. I agree with them. He was a master of the English language and knew how to put words together in such a way that his followers are moved emotionally by the mere reading of his comments. Think what a privilege it must have been to attend his services and listen to him preach. Psalm 116:8, King James Version, was a verse in his “Treasury of David.” I edit and share his thoughts with you today:
“For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling” (Psalm 116:8 KJV).
The triune God has given us a trinity of deliverances: our life has been spared from the grave, our heart has been uplifted from its griefs, and our course in life has been preserved from dishonour. We ought not to be satisfied unless we are conscious of all three of these deliverances.
1. Thou hast delivered my soul from death
If our soul has been saved from death, why do we weep?
2. Thou hast delivered mine eyes from tears
What cause for sorrow remains? Whence those tears?
3. Thou hast delivered my feet from falling
Can we endure to fall again into sin? Let us not rest unless with steady feet we pursue the path of the upright, escaping every snare and shunning every stumblingblock.
As Christians today, we claim these three blessings.
Death is vanquished, tears are dried, and fears are banished when the Lord is near.
Thus has the Psalmist explained the reasons of his resolution to call upon God as long as he lived .. Do we not all feel the force of the reasoning, and will we not carry out the conclusion? .. This is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us.
If you haven’t already memorized this Scripture verse, you might like to do it today. It would be a good one to have ready in moments of spiritual need.

1. ‘Tis the grandest theme thro’ the ages rung;
‘Tis the grandest theme for a mortal tongue;
‘Tis the grandest theme that the world e’er sung:
Our God is able to deliver thee.
He is able to deliver thee,
He is able to deliver thee;
Tho’ by sin opprest, Go to Him for rest;
Our God is able to deliver thee.
2. ‘Tis the grandest them in the earth or main;
‘Tis the grandest theme for a mortal strain;
‘Tis the grandest theme, tell the world again:
Our God is able to deliever thee.
He is able to deliver thee,
He is able to deliver thee;
Tho’ by sin opprest, Go to Him for rest;
Our God is able to deliver thee.
3. ‘Tis the grandest theme, let the tidings roll
To the guilty heart, to the sinful soul;
Look to God in faith, He will make thee whole:
Our God is able to deliver thee.
He is able to deliver thee,
He is able to deliver thee;
Tho’ by sin opprest, Go to Him for rest;
Our God is able to deliver thee.
