The Windows of Heaven

I don’t remember when I first heard the song, “The Windows of Heaven,” but it must have been in the late forties of the previous century. The picture is that of windows in the sky, through which pour abundant blessings of all kinds. God rewards our Christian service. The immediate reference in the Book of Malachi is the support of God’s work through the tithes of God’s people, but the song seems to point to the limitless grace of God in supplying all our needs, physical and spiritual. Open “windows of Heaven” corresponds to the “Showers of Blessing” in another great gospel song.

The Windows of Heaven are Open
The windows of heaven are open
The blessings are falling tonight
There’s joy, joy, joy in my heart
For Jesus made everything right
I gave Him my old tattered garment
He gave me a robe of pure white
I’m feasting on manna from heaven
And that’s why I’m happy tonight.

Bonus Hymn
Jesus Took My Burden All Away

I’m so happy and here’s the reason why
Jesus took my burden all away
Now I’m singing as the days go by
Jesus took my burden all away
Once my heart was heavy
With a load of sin
But Jesus took the load
And gave me peace within
Now I’m happy and that’s the reason why
Jesus took my burden all away.
