Many hymnals contain more than one tune for the hymn, “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name.” The one we have chosen today uses the tune, “Diadem,” composed by James Ellor (1819-1899). He was born in Droylsden, Lancashire, England, and died in Newburgh, New York, at his son’s home. He is buried in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
Ellor trained as a hat maker, but by age 18 was leading the Wesleyan chapel choir. He later began working for the railroad being built between Godley Junction and Manchester. He emigrated to America in 1843 and resumed the hat making trade.

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name!
Diadem
Edward Perronet, pub.1780
alt. by John Rippon

All hail the power of Jesus’ Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all!
Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race,
Ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!
Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all!
Oh, that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all!
