Lead Me, Guide Me

When I was young, I used to sing the song, “Lead Me, Guide Me,” in revival meetings. It was always well-received. Whenever possible, I also sang it when I was pastor. I love this song. You will find links to Bev Shea, Doris Akers and Elvis Presley here. They all do it differently from the others, but they are all great.
Hear George Beverly Shea sing, “Lead Me, Guide Me.” Click here.

LEAD ME, GUIDE ME
Doris Akers
1953

Chorus
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

Verse 1:

I am weak and I need thy strength and power
To help me over my weakest hour
Lead me through the darkness thy face to see
Lead me O Lord, Lead me.

VERSE 2:

Help me tread in the paths of righteousness.
Be my aid when Satan and sin oppress.
I am putting all my trust in Thee:
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

VERSE 3:

I am lost if you take your hand from me,
I am blind without Thy light to see.
Lord just always to me thy servant be,
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

Doris Akers, composer of this song, also wrote “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” and many, many other songs and hymns. Hear her sing in harmony all three parts of her song:
