December 1, 2017 (Friday)
Did you know that today, December 1, is “Eat a Red Apple Day?” Today would be a good day for an apple because an old saying tells us, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
Years ago the membership of the Rockport FBC included a family that owned apple orchards in North Carolina. Every so often they would visit their orchards and return with the most delicious apples I ever ate. They were the “cream of the crop,” plucked from the trees at the very best moment for good taste. I’ll never forget how good they tasted. And how large they were.
I was 66 years old when I saw my first real apple tree in someone’s front yard in Upstate New York. That experience may not sound like much, but to me it was a magic moment as I stood there staring at limb after limb of juicy red apples. The tree was not large, but it was loaded with that beautiful fruit.
Born and raised in Texas, I never saw a genuine apple tree until 1997. Here’s a map of where apples are grown in the U.S.A.
Many people think the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden was an apple, but that’s not likely. Billy Graham was asked about the special fruit; click here for his reply.
In the meantime, why not enjoy a big red apple? This is the calendar date set aside to do that.
