The Roman governor, Pilate, gave the order to crucify Jesus based on a charge that he claimed to be a king. Jesus acknowledged that He has a spiritual kingdom in the hearts of believers. Pilate knew that Jesus posed no threat to Roman rule, but he had the accusation posted on the Cross in three languages: “King of the Jews.” The Jewish Sanhedrin, however, called for Jesus’ death because they considered Him to be a blasphemer, claiming equality with God. Jesus therefore was rejected by the Romans and the Jews who called for His crucifixion. Many in our present day do not believe Jesus to be divine. The outcries of those who reject Jesus’ claims for Himself grow louder each day. We Christians, on the other hand, believe, as did early Christians, that Jesus is both human and divine. We have reasons for this belief. I will now state why we believe this by listing ten reasons for our faith in Jesus Christ. We know that Jesus is divine because:
1. He existed before He was born
“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God” (John 1:1).
2. He was born of a virgin
The angel Gabriel announced to Mary the mother of Jesus that she would conceive and give birth to the Son of God (Luke 1:35).
3. The events of His life happened in fulfillment of the Holy Scriptures
(1Corinthians15:3-8).
4. He performed miracles.
He healed people, fed thousands with little, cast out demons, knew what others were thinking, impressed people with his healings.
5. He fulfilled his mission by providing atonement for all on the cross (John 3:14ff).
6. He lived a sinless life (2 Corinthians 5:21).
7. He claimed to be our Master and Lord (John 13:13).
8. He rose from the dead (John 20:29).
9. He is coming again (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Philippians 2:5-11).
10.He shall be the final judge of all (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Jesus is the divine Son of the living God. He is the one Savior of mankind. He is my Savior. He can be yours. “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). “If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9-13).
