Wanda Shoemaker Conner Stewart writes insprational articles in facebook. They are always great. They encourage me in my walk with the Lord. Recently she made reference to the hymn, “He Hideth My Soul.” How I do love that song. I remember that some singers coupled it with another hymn to create a medley. I even did it myself, but for the life of me, I cannot recall the other song. No matter–I looked it up on the web and found that many different hymns have been coupled with this hymn to make a medley. If you want to create a medley, then evidently it’s your choice.
The hymn itself is more than sufficient to stand on its own. All it needs is someone to sing it from the heart. The Haven of Rest Quartet, since 1934, more than qualifies.
Words, Fanny Crosby
Music, William J. Kirkpatrick
1890
Chorus:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love,
And covers me there with His hand,
And covers me there with His hand.
Verses:
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
A wonderful Savior to me;
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I see.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
He taketh my burden away,
He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,
He giveth me strength as my day.
With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,
And filled with His fullness divine,
I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God!
For such a Redeemer as mine.
When clothed with His brightness transported I rise
To meet Him in clouds of the sky,
His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,
I’ll shout with the millions on high.
