Honey in the Rock

Today is National Cheesecake Day. When I think of cheesecake, I think, “sweet.” So I asked myself to recall some hymns about sweetness. This one came to mind. I hope you like it.

Honey in the Rock
Frederick A. Graves, 1895

Scripture: Deuteronomy 32:13; Psalm 81:16
He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock, and with oil from the flinty crag, Deuteronomy 32:13
But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” Psalm 81:16

The Lewis Family sings many types of songs. They have much fun singing this one, because they add a touch of comedy. The serious message of the song is that God provides something sweet for you as you experience life’s sour moments.

O my brother, do you know the Savior,
Who is wondrous, kind, and true?
He’s the Rock of your salvation!
There’s honey in the Rock for you.
Refrain:
Oh, there’s honey in the Rock, my brother;
There’s honey in the Rock for you;
Leave your sins for the blood to cover;
There’s honey in the Rock for you.
Have you tasted that the Lord is gracious?
Do you walk in the way that’s new?
Have you drunk from the living fountain?
There’s honey in the Rock for you.
Do you pray unto God the Father,
“What wilt Thou have me to do?”
Never fear, He will surely answer,
There’s honey in the Rock for you.
Then go out through the streets and byways,
Preach the Word to the many or few;
Say to every fallen brother,
There’s honey in the Rock for you.
