Today, the first of December, reminds us that the seasons are changing and our traditions are overcoming us.
Perhaps the thought has inspired a little madness in my brain. So I have written what I have written today.
Today
When we write the date
We will notice..It’s December!
That puts a chill in our bones
Because it’s a winter month
With short days
And long nights.
Lots of darkness.
Depressing.
“Darkness” and “Evil” go together
in the Bible.
So we try to scare winter away
With Halloween.
And then we give up the ghosts and seek God
With Thanksgiving.
Finally, we surrender to the season
And erect a tree inside the house,
Filling the rooms with gifts
Wrapped in colorful paper
And tied up with bright ribbons.
The days are short.
Nights are long.
Evil tries to overtake us.
But with our generosity, love and
Happy songs..
..We will bring light into the darkness.
We will put another log on the fire,
Deck the halls with holly,
Eat turkey, ham and beef
And lots of sweets, lots of them,
Including pumpkin pie.
We’ll get through this winter somehow,
Someway.
