In the 1800’s, E. P. Scott, missionary to India, felt called to take the gospel to a remote tribe. He was met by a group of warriors pointing spears at him. Thinking that this was the end, he played his violin and sang, “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” in the language of the tribe he faced. He closed his eyes as he sang all the verse. When he opened them, he saw the men with tears in their eyes, spears lowered. He spent many of his remaining years with these people, sharing God’s love.
Words: Edward Perronet Music: Oliver Holden 1779 All hail the power of Jesus’ Name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown him, crown him, crown him, And crown him Lord of all. Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race, Ye ransomed of the fall, Hail him who saves you by his grace, And crown him, crown him, crown him, And crown him Lord of all. Let ev’ry kindred, ev’ry tribe, On this terrestrial ball, To him all majesty ascribe, And crown him, crown him, crown him, And crown him Lord of all. O that with yonder sacred throng We at his feet may fall; We’ll join the everlasting song, And crown him, crown him, crown him, And crown him Lord of all. |
