The Savior Is Waiting

In the mid 1950s, Ralph Carmichael was asked by his pastor to write an invitation hymn to be used in a revival meeting. He wrote this song, “The Savior Is Waiting.” At first it was sung by a ladies’ trio but by the end of the series of meetings the words were printed in a bulletin so that the congregation could join in singing it. Later World Vision used the hymn in Japan for an evangelistic crusade. It was sung at the close of every worship service.

THE SAVIOR IS WAITING
Ralph Carmichael
1955

The Savior is waiting to enter your heart
Why don’t you let Him come in?
There’s nothing in this world to keep you apart
What is your answer to Him?
Time after time He has waited before,
And now He is waiting again
To see if you’re willing to open the door,
Oh, how He wants to come in
If you’ll take one step toward the Savior, my friend,
You’ll find His arms open wide.
Receive Him, and all of your darkness will end,
Within your heart He’ll abide.
Time after time He has waited before,
And now He is waiting again
To see if you’re willing to open the door,
Oh, how He wants to come in.
