Chanel No. 5

I was reading the other day about things that can help us fall asleep. Not that I have a problem with that. First of all, I have a magic chair and when I start watching a tv show, it decides I’ve seen enough and after sending me to dreamland about 20 minutes or so it wakes me up. Then I usually stay up until I get sleepy again, so I don’t go to bed until I’ve already nodded off a few times. I go right to sleep, usually. But, getting back to the article about things that can help us fall asleep, one of the suggestions was to put a tiny dab of perfume or cologne that we enjoy just above our upper lip. The pleasure and satisfaction of a very pleasant aroma has a calming effect and helps us drift into slumber land.
I then did a little mental inventory of smells that I enjoy, and in the realm of perfume there is chanel1.jpgnone I like better than Chanel No. 5. I know it is made for the ladies, but the ladies sometimes wear it for the men in their lives, so it must be for men, too. Years ago I bought some for Wanda at Lichtenstein’s in Corpus for ten dollars. The box and sprayer are still here, and it takes refills. So I decided to look up the price. Was I ever shocked. What cost $10.00 years ago is now $125.00! I’m not likely to buy any of that. Maybe I’ll try the smell of fresh biscuits instead, or possibly fresh brewed coffee. I like to smell those. And they cost much less than $125.00. Fried bacon is really good, too, but not quite as cheap.
I remember when I was a kid it seemed like everywhere I went the women were wearing “An Evening in Paris.” The aroma filled the air. I think I prefer the olfactory pleasure of “A Morning in South Texas.”
