“I Love to Tell the Story” was written by a lady convalescing and slowly recovering from a very serious illness. It is derived from two very long poems, the first of which contained fifty verses. Other hymns have been derived from her poem.
This hymn has been very popular and has been translated into several languages for use in worship services around the world.
Ira Sankey, the great singer of old, used to tell the story of a young man who was converted to Christ by learning this hymn and singing it to himself as he went about his activities. Indeed it is a powerful song.
