A Wonderful Life (Romans 8:28)

In the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” George Bailey almost committed suicide, wishing he had never been born, but was allowed to see what a great and influential life his had been.
A favorite Bible verse of many is Romans 8:28, “..we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (NIV). Because this is true, each of us is living “a wonderful life.”
God is interested in your life. This verse of Scripture tells us that God is at work in our lives. The “all things” in this verse tell us that God knows all about us and cares about whatever is happening to us. The people we know may not seem to care, but God does.
We should stop worrying, take our burdens to the Lord, and calm down.
God is at work in your life. Look at the verse. It says, “God works for the good of those who love him.” Jesus said, “My Father works, and I work.” The Holy Spirit lives within each believer to help him or her. The miracle of life is that God is working within us as we exercise our free will. Difficult to explain, but too true to deny.
God has a purpose for your life. Once more, take a good look at the verse: “called according to his purpose.” If we keep on reading in Romans 8, we will see that his purpose is that we be conformed to the image of Christ. God takes everything–the good and the bad–and uses it all to help us become more like Jesus.

The Christian life is truly “a wonderful life.” How marvelous to be counted among those who “love him,” as Romans 8:28 says. Don’t forget the old song, “Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”
