The hymn, “Burdens Are Lifted at Calvary” was written by John M. Moore of Toronto in 1952. He wrote it after leading a young seaman to Christ by handing him a tract which featured a scene from Pilgrim’s Progress in which the pilgrim carries a heavy burden on his back that rolls away as he approaches the Cross.
Moore asked him, ‘Do you feel this burden on your back today?’ and gives this report: “We prayed together and never shall I forget the smile of peace and assurance that lit up his face when he said that his burden was lifted!”
Wilson Dedmon was a wonderful deacon who loved the Lord. I had the privilege of being his pastor in his retirement years. This was his favorite hymn.
