“As the Deer” was one of the first of the modern praise and worship songs I ever heard. I loved it from the very first time I heard it.
It is based on a Psalm in which the first verse reads, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God” (Psalm 42:1 NIV).
This is the best known song written by Marty Nystrom of Seattle, Washington. He composed it in 1981. Click on his name for more.
Marty Nystrom 1981 As the deer panteth for the water So my soul longeth after Thee You alone are my heart’s desire And I long to worship Thee (Chorus) You alone are my strength, my shield To You alone may my spirit yield You alone are my heart’s desire And I long to worship Thee You’re my friend and You are my brother Even though You are a king I love You more than any other So much more than anything Chorus I want You more than gold or silver Only You can satisfy You alone are the real joy giver And the apple of my eye Chorus |
