My Jesus, I Love Thee

Theme for week: Loving the Lord

November 2, 2021 Tuesday)

I belong to Jesus. Jesus belongs to me. I am His. He is mine. This takes place within the bond of love. He loves us. We love Him.

The hymn for today, “My Jesus, I Love Thee,” has been around almost 150 years, and most of us have heard it many times, singing it fairly often in worship services.

When I tell the Lord I love Him, I do so with an attitude of repentance, promising to forsake my sinful ways, and pledging myself to live in such a way as to bring honor and glory to Him.

I promise to love the Lord because He first loved me, taking my place on the Cross and suffering for my sins. As I sing this hymn, I thank Jesus for purchasing my eternal pardon with His own precious life.

I promise I will love Him as long as I live, and, when death comes and He takes me home to Heaven, to love Him forever. My song in Heaven will be, “If ever I loved Thee, My Jesus, ’tis now.”

MY JESUS, I LOVE THEE
Words, William R. Featherston
Music, Adoniram J. Gordon
1876

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
