Nailed to the Cross

June 18, 2021 (Friday

As of a few days ago, there had been 272 mass shootings in our country so far this year. That’s almost 2 per day (1.64). Unbelievable as it seems, those are the facts. The psychologists tells us the the average shooter feels he has been wronged in some way and homicide (sometimes with suicide) somehow rights the wrongs. It is said that the perpetrator is either “mad” or “bad.” It is also said that finding those who are likely to do this awful thing before it actually happens is all but impossible in a nation of nearly 350 million people.

Slowly but surely we are creating a godless society. Sad, but true, I believe. So how does this belief square with the “What a wonderful world” idea these blogs have been promoting? I recall a professor who quoted a conversation: “Prof, is the world getting worse or better?” and the answer was, “It’s doing both. The good’s getting better and the bad’s getting worse.” That makes sense to me, although I realize not everyone will agree.

The Ten Commandments, reflecting the nature of God Himself, prohibit murder. One great reason many people attempt to refrain from sin is that they have been transformed by the grace and power of God, and are seeking to trust and obey God. I am one of those people, and I hope you are. I pray you are one who has accepted Christ’s sacrifice of Himself on the Cross and, as a result, has been born again. As the scripture says, “If we are in Christ by faith, we have become new creations; the old has passed and the new has begun.” We have a new life in Christ.

That does not mean we never sin, but, if we sin, we have an advocate with the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. Whenever we sin, we confess our sin and the Lord is faithful to forgive and cleanse us. We are in a personal relationship with Jesus, we love Him and seek a closer walk with Him every day.

NAILED TO THE CROSS

Words, Carrie E. Breck
Music, Grant C. Tullar
1899

There was One Who was willing to die in my stead,
That a soul so unworthy might live;
And the path to the cross He was willing to tread,
All the sins of my life to forgive.

Refrain:
They are nailed to the cross! They are nailed to the cross!
Oh, how much He was willing to bear!
With what anguish and loss Jesus went to the cross,
But He carried my sins with Him there.

He is tender and loving and patient with me,
While He cleanses my heart of the dross;
But “there’s no condemnation”—I know I am free,
For my sins are all nailed to the cross. (Refrain)

I will cling to my Savior and never depart,
I will joyfully journey each day,
With a song on my lips and a song in my heart,
That my sins have been taken away.(Refrain)
