Family:
Married Wanda Jane Sadler in 1953. Wanda was a graduate of
Baylor University and was church choir director for more than twenty
years. Wanda died in 2002, at the age of 70.
Five children (year of birth):
David, 1954; Dan, 1955; Deborah (1959)(Died at age 37 in 1997);
Dianna, (1963); Dwight, (1966). All were either Valedictorian,
Salutatorian or Honor Graduate in High School. All are college
graduates. Several hold graduate degrees. Some graduated
from college Cum Laude and/or Magna Cum Laude. Nine grandchildren,
Two married. One great grandchild (as of June 2014).
Denominational Service:
Served six years on Executive Board of Baptist General Convention of
Texas, and on its Nominating Committee for the commissions and boards.
Served six years on the BGCT Christian Life Commission. Vice chairman one year.
Served six years on Valley Baptist Academy Board of Trustees.
Served six years on Baptist Learning Center (Corpus Christi) Board of Trustees.
Served a term on the Zephyr Baptist Encampment Board of Trustees.
Served several terms on the Blanco Bend Baptist Area Committee and
served as chairman.
Served as teacher for Seminary Extension Department.
Served as adjunct professor for Howard Payne University, Corpus Christi
campus (known at the time as Baptist Learning Center)
Served association as Moderator, Vice-Moderator, Clerk, Christian Life
Chairman, Church Training Director, Continuing Education Committee,
Credentials Committee, Mission and Survey Committee, Stewardship
Committee, Nominating Committee, and San Antonio Seminary Correlating
Committee (chairman of several of these groups). Served as Finance
Chairman for the Bee County College Baptist Student Center and Blanco
Baptist Association Office building. During his tenure at Rockport, served as chairman or member of every search committee seeking a Director of Missions.
Community Service:
Member of local Salvation Army Service Committee for 30 years. Past president of Rockport Chapter, American Cancer Society. Past member of Rotary Club.
