The Book of Daniel in the Bible is a mysterious book which deals with the flow of history, but there was nothing mysterious about the man, Daniel, fearless prophet of God. He and many others were taken to Babylon in captivity, along with his three friends–all of them young men. They refused the rich food of the king and instead requested plain food, which proved to be very healthy for them. Only Daniel could interpret dreams of the king. When the king’s son proved himself to be wicked, handwriting on the wall appeared, pronouncing judgment, and only Daniel could explain the true meaning. After the Persians conquered the Babylonians, Daniel and his friends remained in the favor of the new king. Daniel prayed to God in spite of orders not to do so and was thrown into the lion’s den, where he emerged unharmed. Daniel had visions of the future and requested that the king send him and his people back to their homes in Israel, which came to pass. Daniel became known as a man of prayer, no matter what it might cost him. He fearlessly prayed although forbidden and prevailed.
And so we have a song, from the famous Speer family, “Daniel Prayed.” Our presentation in this blog features Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs, two of the best known country and bluegrass singers.
