Families at Thanksgiving

November 25, 2020 (Wednesday)

Today, the day before Thanksgiving, is typically the busiest travel day of the year. Historical data confirms this to be typical of most Thanksgiving seasons.

The Monday before Thanksgiving may have been the best Thanksgiving travel day. It offered the best fares. You were likely to find smaller crowds—about half as many people travel on Monday compared to later in the week. You also would have had a few spare days in case winter weather interferes with your flight back home.

All the precautions and guidelines concerning the pandemic should be taken into account. Many will follow those guidelines but many will not. Some will simply cancel family plans for Thanksgiving as requested by the C.D.C. while others will observe the holiday with modified procedures. Many people will simply do what they always have done with no change. Advisors suggest that Thanksgiving gatherings take place outside as much as possible.

In all probability whatever people decide to do about family gatherings at Thanksgiving will also be observed during the Christmas holidays.

I suppose we will wait and see. The good news is that most Americans will have had a chance to be vaccinated by the end of April.
