“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV)

I never exercised before I had a heart attack in 2002, when I received a stent to correct the problem, followed by weeks of rehab therapy (exercise). After the rehab, I stayed on a three-days-per-week schedule of exercise and walking until about 2 1/2 years ago, when I just “got out of the habit.” Then I “got into the habit” of ignoring exercise altogether. Bad idea. Shame on me.
Lately I’ve been feeling sluggish and tired, falling asleep in my easy chair time and again. With no exercise routine, I haven’t been feeling as well as I had been feeling in the past.
Yesterday morning, I repented of my wayward ways and resumed walking. I stayed busy all day and never napped because I never sat in that wonderful chair. Last night I felt better than I have in a while. Just one day of walking and remaining active throughout the day worked wonders. I will keep it up.
The Apostle Paul reminded his readers that the human body of a believer is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives within, and therefore should be carefully maintained. Lately I have viewed my body not as a temple but as “this old house,” not worth the effort of keeping it up. Well, pray for me, please, to follow the good intentions of my better self as I resume walking for my health.
