Numbers

October 16, 2012 (Tuesday)
”picSomewhere a baby was born last Thursday. It weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces. It was born on October 11, 2012 at 1:14 p.m.
Recap: Birth weight 8-9. Date 10-11-12. Time (military version) 1314. So, write those three combinations in order, and you have: 8-9-10-11-12-13-14. The baby will never be able to forget its stats of birth.
There is absolutely no significance whatsoever to those numbers. They are merely coincidental. No doubt, however, people will appear who will give a sinister connotation to the numbers, making the child out to be the fulfillment of some kind of prophecy. I’m sorry to sound cynical, but all the theories of secret codes and conspiracies, etc. don’t help us to solve our problems; they only add to our confusion.
At our church years ago we had a bus we used for church ministries. We renewed the vehicle registration every year, and periodically the state would issue new license plates. The last time they assigned us a new license plate number, it included dreaded number, “666.” We paid it no attention and used the bus successfully. We later gave the bus to a church in a distant town, and members of the new church drove the bus across the state. When they got back to their home town, and registered the bus, they requested new plates with different numbers.
The number, “666,” is immediately recognized by many people as a mysterious designation of an end-time personality that is either identified by the number or is in some way associated with it. That’s only one of many interpretations of verses in the Book of Revelation. Not everyone interprets the symbols of Revelation in the same way. The only thing that can be said with certainty about “666” in the Book of Revelation is that, according to the Hebrew meanings assigned to numbers, “6” falls short of “7,” the perfect number, and therefore signifies evil or sin. The appearance of an evil number three times in succession indicates unbelievable evil. Any further interpretation is speculation.
I’m tempted to say more about this, but now that I’m old I’m not interested in changing your mind about what you may already believe. We can afford to disagree about such matters as this.
