Back to Retirement?

Not so fast

”picLast Monday I wrote a blog about the Bethel Baptist Church of Ingleside about to call a new pastor. He was a pulpit guest of the church yesterday and the church extended a call to him to become the pastor. He asked for a week to pray about his answer, and, if his answer is yes, he will begin his work around October 1. I ask my friends and family who read this blog to join me in prayer that God’s will be done in this matter.
Since the new pastor, Brother Bob Upchurch, will begin his work no sooner than October 1, the church wants me to continue to be the interim pastor until that time. This changes the schedule posted in last week’s blog. I will be with the Bethel congregation through August and September as their interim pastor.
The weather forecast calls for more rain this week in South Texas. This is welcome news for us, because the long drought had hit us hard. We pray that this wet weather signals the end of the drought conditions. At the same time we are aware that vast sections of our nation have also been hit hard by drought, and have not had rain. These are farm areas that provide food for the nation. Let us pray for the folks in those places.
The recent rains in Texas have brought flooding conditions to some places. We pray this does not signal worse flooding to come as we enter the most active phase of the current hurricane season. But we are still thankful for the rain we have already had. It is truly welcome.
