UNDERSTANDING THE GOSPEL 1 CORINTHIANS 2:6-16
INTRODUCTION: The Gospel is God’s wise message, hidden by
unbelief and considered unwise by some, but destined for our
glory before time began.
I. THE GOSPEL IS CLEAR TO BELIEVERS
6a – Seen by the mature as wisdom
1. The message is God’s love in Christ (“wisdom” 2:6a)
2. The message is understood by the believer (“mature” 2:6a)
II. THE GOSPEL IS A MYSTERY TO UNBELIEVERS
1. Human reason cannot comprehend the Gospel (2:6b)
2. Human reason sees the Gospel as a secret message (2:7)
(1) Not understood by those who ordered the crucifixion (2:8)
(2) Not understandable by human senses alone (2:9)
III. THE GOSPEL IS REVEALED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. The Holy Spirit Imparts Truth (2:10)
2. The Holy Spirit Inquires About All Things (2:10)
3. The Holy Spirit Informs Us About God (2:11)
4. The Holy Spirit Indwells the Believer (2:12a)
5. The Holy Spirit Instructs the Believer (2:12b)
6. The Holy Spirit Inspires the Message (2:13)
IV. THE GOSPEL WILL BE REJECTED AND RECEIVED CONCLUSION: The Gospel is God’s wise message, understood by you
as the Holy Spirit works within you, making it understandable. Do you
want to be saved? Are you willing to ask God to help you understand?
