2011
November 1, 2011 (Tuesday)
If the weather on this November day is anything like yesterday, the last day of October, it will be calm and beautiful, cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon sun. We moved to Rockport from Dallas at this very time of year. We soon made a little trip on the ferry to Port Aransas, and took a few pictures of ourselves walking at water’s edge, enjoying balmy weather. Back in Dallas we had experienced some very cold winters, even blizzards, during our 3 1/2 years there. Walking on the beach, wading a little, was quite a different experience. That was 47 years ago. My, my.
I recall the first “blue norther” I saw coming in over the bay. The sky to the north of us grew very dark and the warm weather quickly went south. It can get cold here. We had a white Christmas, and it was beautiful, just a few years ago. I’ve seen it freeze here and cause giant fish to float to the top of the water. I’ve had friends whose houses and furnishings were ruined because of broken pipes that had frozen and then thawed. The weather will probably change during November, get messy in December and cause us to shiver in January. But beautiful weather may be our lot all winter. Every winter is different, it seems.
If you live in Rockport, just enjoy it. No matter where you live, just enjoy it. The astronomers have shown us that this whirling blue planet is a unique place in the universe. Hot or cold, rain or shine, cloudy or sunny, we can be thankful we are here. As Ray Stevens taught us to sing, “Everything is beautiful in its own way.”
