Spiritual Experiences

Seize your opportunities to have them

October 13, 2011 (Thursday)moon.jpg Well, I went to the beach to get a good view of the full moon on Tuesday, but clouds obscured the view. Looking at the satellite map, it seems a long stream of clouds from a Pacific storm was the culprit. Oh, well, the moon has been full at least 1040 times since I was born, so it will likely be full again as it rises on a clear evening. The question is, “How many times will I be available to see it?”
niagara.jpgNature provides experiences that can only be categorized as “spiritual.” Niagara Falls, Yosemite Valley, the Grand Canyon–these and other natural wonders not only leave us awed at their majesty, but stir up our souls within us. We are touched deeply by what we see and hear when we are in those places. Many other such experiences move us nearer to God, such as a beautiful sunrise or sunset, readily available for anyone to see and experience.
violin.jpgSpiritual experiences come in many forms. Sometimes they take the form of dedicated talent and marvelous music. Dwight and I, along with granddaughter Melinda, went to the Corpus Christi Symphony concert last Saturday. Sirena Huang, from Korea, who won the world-wide Tchaikovsky competition at age 15, performed the great composer’s Violin Concerto Saturday at age 17. Her presentation was absolutely magnificent, and, from my perspective, perfect. Truthfully, such a performance stirs the soul and lifts the spirit.
steeple2.jpgI believe that’s what the Lord intends to happen when we join with others in worship. Every time we go to church and join with the congregation in that experience, we can feel close to God, and our spirits can be lifted. It can happen to each of us only if we avail ourselves of the opportunity. It comes around often. Let yourself be blessed; go to church this week.
