We trust in God
October 5, 2011 (Wednesday)
The economic news doesn’t seem to be getting any better lately, and Ben Bernanke’s announcements are not encouraging. One thing we know about our economic system is that it changes from time to time from one extreme to the other. “Panics,” “Recessions,” “Depressions,” etc. are a definite historical fact, happening over and over throughout our nation’s history.
H.V. Kaltenborn, get on the radio again and tell us once more, “Ah, yes, there’s good news tonight.”
Louis Armstrong, where are you? Come and sing to us with that contagious smile and comforting gravel voice. Play your trumpet and comfort us. Sing again that great song by Robert Thiele and George David Weiss: “I see trees of green, red roses too; I see them bloom, for me and you, and I think to myself, What a wonderful world.” Sing it Louis. Sing us another verse: “I see friends shaking hands, sayin’, ‘How do you do?’ They’re really sayin’, ‘I love you.’ I hear babies cryin’, I watch them grow; they’ll learn much more, than I’ll ever know, and I think to myself. What a wonderful world. Yes, I think to myself, What a wonderful world. Oh yeah.”
And, hey, Habakkuk, tell us again about faith in hard times: “..even though..the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!” (Habakkuk 3:17-18 NLT).
Let’s all sing together a grand old hymn of faith: “Have faith in God. He’s on his throne. Have faith in God. He watches o’er his own. He cannot fail. He must prevail. Have faith in God. Have faith in God!”
