and Christmas
December 8, 2010 (Wednesday)
Last evening, ABC Television presented “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” an animated special feature originally shown in 1965. Originally shown when? 1965! That’s 45 years ago! I don’t know about you, but I find it absolutely amazing that producers would expect a reasonable number of viewers for a show that has been repeated every year for nearly half a century. I’m sure Charles Schulz never expected this to happen.
Why do you think the comic strip, “Peanuts,” upon which the animated cartoon was created, was and is so popular, and still being published years after Mr. Schulz passing? I guess I really don’t know the answer to that, but for me it’s because the characters are lovable, the situations are uncomplicated, and the lessons are profound.
The show yesterday was about Christmas and included readings from the gospel of Luke as well as the singing of Christmas Carols, with the observation, “That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown!”
I’m ready for the Christmas season, now, because I saw, “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
