July starts today

”picWell, whaddayaknow, it’s July already. June certainly came and went in a hurry. Or so it seems to me. Of course, the older I get, the faster time moves. It’s the same with everybody. I think I wrote a blog not too long ago about how time seems to move more quickly as we get older. It’s not just in our imagination; there are scientific reasons for it to seem so.
Anyway, it’s July. And July 4 will come on a Sunday this year. Reminds me of 1976, the Bi-centennial celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It came on a Sunday that year, too. Our choir put on a wonderful program with the musical, “I Love America.”
At the Timbergrove Baptist Church we are going to follow the tradition of folding the flag in the military way, with each fold described by a beautiful reading which emphasizes our spiritual values.
The Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
The lyrics of “This is My Country” were written by Don Ray in 1940. Al Jacobs wrote the music. The first verse says, “This is my country! Land of my birth! This is my country! Grandest on earth! I pledge thee my allegiance, America, the bold, For this is my country to have and to hold.”
