Sweet Days

cffblog6.jpgNovember 20, 2019 (Wednesday)

When I was young my friends and I sang many choruses. Some of them were written with young children in mind, but young people loved to sing them too.

One of my favorites in those days was “Every Day with Jesus.”

Yesterday’s blog asked us to set aside a day to wish people “a bad day.” I don’t know what would motivate a person to want such a thing, but those who know Jesus as their Savior and Lord wish everyone else would come to know Him too. The most wonderful day of my life was the day I opened my heart’s door and invited Jesus to come in. Every day since has been sweeter than the day before. So why not sing about it?

A song with a similar message is “Sweeter As the Days Go By.” I wrote a blog about it back in January. Click here if you would like to see that blog.

Have A Bad Day?

cffblog6.jpgNovember 19, 2019 (Tuesday)

“Have a Bad Day” Day is today…Wha..???

Everybody has a bad day once in a while, but that’s not the meaning of this crazy day.

Believe it or not, Have a Bad Day Day was created to get us to wish people a bad day. The intent is to have sales people stop saying to their customers “have a good day”, and replace it with “have a bad day”. This is truly the meaning and intent of this day, as stated by the creator.

Sorry, I cannot comply with such a stupid idea. So, cliche or not, “Have a nice day.”

You may prefer other sayings. Just the other day, a lady said to me at the checkout stand of the store, “Have a blessed day.” I liked that, although every day can be considered a “blessed” day, if our hearts are in tune with the Lord.

At the close of each Tuesday blog I will write about the presidents, in the order of their service.

Today’s president is
John Tyler – The 10th President

Heaven is Beautiful

cffblog6.jpgNovember 18, 2019 (Monday)

Churches have been criticized by unbelievers as giving too much attention to Heaven and not enough to everyday life. If we examine the record, we will discover that those who do the most for God and others in this life are those who believe strongly in a place called Heaven.

HOW BEAUTIFUL HEAVEN MUST BE
Mrs. A. S. Bridgewater
1920

We read of a place that’s called heaven,
It’s made for the pure and the free;
These truths in God’s Word He hath given,
How beautiful heaven must be.

Chorus:
How beautiful heaven must be,
Sweet home of the happy and free;
Fair haven of rest for the weary,
How beautiful heaven must be.

In heaven no drooping nor pining,
No wishing for elsewhere to be;
God’s light is forever there shining,
How beautiful heaven must be.

Pure waters of life there are flowing,
And all who will drink may be free;
Rare jewels of splendor are glowing,
How beautiful heaven must be.

The angels so sweetly are singing,
Up there by the beautiful sea;
Sweet chords from their gold harps are ringing,
How beautiful heaven must be.

What A Day That Will Be

Jim Hill wrote the words to, “What A Day That Will Be.” Here’s the story.

Jim said that his mother-in-law became very sick. He was a very new Christian at the time. So one day when he was coming home from work, he was asking God why this was happening to his mother-in-law. Then he said, words just starting filling his mind, but he did not have anything on which to write the words down. So when he got home he got out of the car and looked down and there was a old piece of cardboard. He picked it up and wrote down the words to “What A Day That Will Be.” The first person that Jim Hill sang the song for was his sick mother-in-law.

WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE
Jim Hill
1955

There is coming a day,
When no heart aches shall come,
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye,
All is peace forever more,
On that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

There’ll be no sorrow there,
No more burdens to bear,
No more sickness, no pain,
No more parting over there;
And forever I will be,
With the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

The Sweet By and By

cffblog6.jpgNovember 16, 2019 (Saturday)

The writer of the words of this grand old hymn was a friend of the writer of the tune, who was subject to bouts of depression. One day the two of them were together and the musician had his back toward the lyricist, who asked him what was the trouble? Webster replied, “It will be all right by and by.” Instantly, words came to Bennett and he wrote them down and gave them to Webster, who wrote the music all at once. That sudden composition 151 years ago remains among us as a favorite hymn.

IN THE SWEET BY AND BY
Words Sanford F. Bennett
Music Joseph P. Webster
1868

There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

Chorus:
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

We shall sing on that beautiful shore
The melodious songs of the blessed;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

To our bountiful Father above,
We will offer our tribute of praise
For the glorious gift of His love
And the blessings that hallow our days.
